MINK- Print Your Own Makeup

Mink-Makeup-Printer

Calling all make-up enthusiasts! 3-D printing has now made it’s entry into the beauty industry with ‘Mink 3-D’.  Grace Choi is the innovative inventor behind the creation of the first-ever 3-D Makeup Printer. The Harvard grad was at business school when she realized what the makeup industry is capitalizing on is essentially color– something that technology can provide for free!  Choi plans to sell the Mink printer for $300 soon.  I know many will be looking forward to saving some bucks on lipstick in the near future.

Hello! The Team at TSA Headquarters is super excited these days! We think our days of using Gimp or Inkscape for emergency design work may be over, courtesy:  Canva.

Canva is the one-stop clean design app-slash-website tool that comes fitted with the swankiest, retro-ish templates for everything from Facebook Cover Photos, Pinterest, to Business cards.  If that isn’t enough for you, did you know Guy Kawasaki is their evangelist? Yeah. Enough Said.

Here are few  samples we cooked up in the Canva lab:

SEEN: Bolo Bhi’s ” Pakistan’s Internet BANwagon” Documentary

Think.Scheme.Apply.
has just come back from attending a screening of Bolo Bhi’s documentary on the state of internet censorship in Pakistan at The Knowledge Factory in Lahore.

The documentary provides the other half of the discussion regarding the controversial ‘YouTube Ban’- with insights

from current legislators, lawers, IT experts and young entreprenuers.

The documentary itself was an easy watch, with bilingual translations as required, and we would recommend it as intro to the issue.   Lots of interesting comments were shared afterwards in the Q&A – including suggestions for some tweaks to the doc for version 2.

The casual Q & A session covers everything from  bridal hair-dos mistakes to hair rinses and vegetable dyes.  When asked why she has opted for a location far from the unofficial commercial center of Lahore, M.M. Alam Road,  Natasha answers that “You don’t get to really know the client when there are many people waiting for consultations.”

Natasha demonstrates one higher up ‘do and one lower up ‘do, resting on the nape of the neck – which is completely ‘the’ style to carry this Winter! She smiles as she transforms the model’s unruly tresses into cat-walk ready hair’dos; a feat only a professional with years of experience can pull off!

Q & A with Stylist Natasha Saigol

Spend the Day with Natasha Saigol

Spend the Day with Natasha Saigol

As December draws near, the city prepares for yet another winter wedding season and dressers and mirrors are stuffed with invites- Natasha says it is time to change your look!

Which hairstyle will suit the Winter Wedding parties?

Western Looks – We are going to do ‘soft’ bridal looks , soft, braids, shimmery diamond-like accents, small flowers, natural tumbling curls. The key is that one’s look should be effortless. restrict your ‘do to one pin. trying to make a different look from the  instant uplift – the overwhelming trend of the masses to opt for the overly pulled back look -The Look for attending Winter Weddings this season. Bridals – let your hair down!

Hold up! How do you get your hairstyle to stay – without weighing it down with hair product?

Say No to  Hairspray!   As an environmentally-conscious diva, Natasha suggests sticking to mousse over hairsprays when you want that hairstyle to last.  Quality hair mousse allows you maintain the hair style without loosing natural gloss.

As a busy Working Woman or a University Student, What can we do to add a little ‘oomph’ into our day-to-day look?

Try a simple pony-tail. Start by tousling the hair with a little poof of mousse, then softly sweep them up in around high at the back of your head and secure with a hair band.  Little messy hair is in! Some purposefully astray hair strands bring about the casually stylish gloss for today’s modern woman. You can use curling hot tongs kit to recreate  that salon look in minutes at home. I  love my accessories and often use them to accent a hairdo. Try sparkly bobby pins to add a touch of glamour as you dress up  for the office or a casual lunch with old friends.

Volume Woes! How to add volume to my hair, especially when I’m in a rush?

Grab a comb and softly backcomb a small portion of hair on the crown of your head. Then, style your hair as usual – you will have enough lift to last from breakfast to dinner time!

Culture in Chaos: Dance at Youth Performing Arts Festival

As quickly as they came on, the lights disappeared and with them the empty stage. The rowdy, impatient crowd was at once silenced- the lone performer’s silhouette filled center-stage-and with a flourish of the recorded tabla beat-spotlight was on!

Tonight we had the pleasure of attending a kathak-semi-classical dance performance put on by the esteemed artiste Nahid Siddiqui and her dance troupe. The first act was steeped in classical tradition- from the swan-like movements of the male performer to the ghungroos (bell-anklets) adorning both of the poised feet. Such understated grace– the delicate balance between stillness and motion as if each beat of the tabla drum resonated through– first the performer’s heart, then outwards towards the limbs–gaining strength and range  until it dissipates upon hitting air.  “Tat-Tat-Thai” (bol) Each beat – half-beat  was matched and then, at times left to linger on the autumn air, as if waiting for it to boomerang back inwards- towards the source- the return. Perfectly executed turns brought to life the aural story-telling– transporting us from the crowded auditorium to a palatial  abode where a demi-god pondered his love.

With applause echoing, four new dancers assembled, looking resplendent in the deep purple-pink silk ensembles, lined in a row by height, hands unfolding as if petals- slowly-in sync with the chimes.  As the chimes gained momentum, so did the performer, gliding across the stage– as if oblivious of the bright lights– the large swarm of moths– the occasional jeer from the ADD members of audience- a salute to their professionalism!  A delicate tug-of-war occurs; guided by  vocalized ‘bol’ or rhythmic phrase and crisp tabla beats; then is laid to rest– each performer getting equal time in the center to showcase their passion and skill in the moving arts.

With a two-part performance – rich in variety, color, and rhythm–the NSG earned everyone’s attention and praise tonight.  Bravo to the team behind Lahore’s Youth Performing Arts Festival for highlighting such dedicated members of our community!

Pizza Adventures of the Intimate Kind: Pizza Party, Islamabad

Humble Beginnings

Before embarking on our return-trip to the capital of Punjab and our home-sweet/sweltering-home, Lahore, a craving was detected. One that seemed almost insatiable in a strange city–one for freshly baked, thin-crust pizzas!

Luckily, a distant memory of a pizza foray  and the quick analytics of Foursquare came to rescue.   The car was pointed towards Pizza Party, which is tucked behind a guest house in a cozy residential street.

For a small operation with only one functional brick oven, their pizzas are to die for! Or, well, worth indulging in! The four cheeses melt so perfectly into the crunchy, yet doughy thin crust base– homemade pizza goodness under 10 minutes flat.

Not bad for a foodie out of his/her city—not bad at all!
